September 29, 2010

A look a our Sac-Joaquin Section football rankings...

Section Top 10

1. Grant (4-0)
Top ranked in the state and No. 2 nationally in two polls means Pacers are darn good.

2. Folsom (3-1)
Have surged to three routs since losing opener to Grant, with defense the key.

3. Pleasant Grove (5-0)
Mark Jenkins scored 8 rushing touchdowns for a young Eagles off to school-record start.

4. Nevada Union (3-1)
Miners defense shined again in blanking Elk Grove 28-0 and offense has been balanced and steady.

5. Oak Ridge (4-0)
Trojans had a bye and now prepare for ultra-athletic Fairfield, though Fairfield must deal with OR, too.

6. Napa (5-0)
Another great start for coach Troy Mott and Indians, who are playing inspired, tough, typical Indians football.

7. St. Mary's-Stockton (3-1)
Bounced back from tough De La Salle second-half meltdown to beat talented Lincoln-Stockton 28-25.

8. Vacaville (3-1)
The Bulldogs did not carry over their impressive rout of Granite Bay against NorCal powerhouse Valley Christian of San Jose, yielding 408 yards rushing in 48-7 loss. Napa looms on Oct. 8.

9. Rocklin (4-1)
Thunder has the ultimate QB leader in Jimmy Laughrea, who can run, throw, will his team, and did so in rout of Ponderosa.

10. Turlock (4-0)
The Modesto Bee's top-ranked team beat unbeaten Modesto 24-21 behind 345 yards rushing. D-I team is rising in the south.

Nor Cal Preps game of the week: Valley Christian @ Vacaville

September 25, 2010

#3 Valley Christian, San Jose (2-0) at #9 Vacaville (3-0) 7:30PM:

Both teams have to feel like they are looking in the mirroe some when watching each other as Valley Christian and Vacaville will bring in well-oiled running attacks to control the game.
