Senior star Byron Marshall went down with a shoulder injury in the first quarter but the Warriors still managed to pile up 298 rushing yards. Senior Jarrod Lawson had 211 yards and two touchdowns in 18 carries and junior Ryan Severson added 72 yards and a touchdown. Dillon Saldivar led the defensive effort with two interceptions.

SATURDAY UPDATE: Byron Marshall had an MRI this morning, but it will be a few days before the Warriors know how many games he’ll miss, if any. Marshall isn’t in a lot of pain, so the hope is that the shoulder injury isn’t as bad as it looked Friday night.

Vacaville 38, Granite Bay 27

A week after losing a 14 point fourth quarter lead at Marin Catholic, Vacaville played well in the final frame to upend No. 5 Granite Bay 38-27. Junior Curtis Goins had 138 yards and four touchdowns, including two scores in the fourth quarter. Granite Bay also showed off its running game behind Arik Bird, who rushed for 216 yards and a score as well as blocking a punt for another touchdown.

VACAVILLE — Vacaville High School has something to celebrate this weekend after posting a 38-27 win over previously undefeated Granite Bay on Friday night.

The Bulldogs (2-1) kept the Grizzlies (3-1) off balance on both sides of the ball and capitalized on key mistakes.

Coleman Christensen gave credit to some strenuous practice workouts after Vacaville High School's huge 38-27 win over Granite Bay on Friday night at Tom Zunino Stadium.

"Coach Pop's tires," Christensen said of one of head coach Mike Papadopoulos' workouts. "Pulling tires. That really paid off for us in the fourth quarter. Everything just started to click and the offensive line was amazing."

The Bulldogs continue their arduous nonleague schedule against the powerhouse Grizzlies (3-0), who are averaging 40 points a game, and blasted Clovis East 42-3 last week.

Vacaville (1-1) lost to Marin Catholic 33-29 last week. Wildcats quarterback Jared Goff threw for 230 yards, 215 to Ryan Farney.

Now the Bulldogs go up against Grizzlies quarterback Brendan Keeney, who has thrown for 539 yards and 10 TDs already.
