September 28, 2011
Deer Valley (2-2) at #10 Vacaville (3-1) 7:30 PM: Deer Valley is home to one of the early surprises this football season in running back Matt Smith. The 5-foot-9 senior has 832 yards and 11 touchdowns in having more than 200 yards in three of four games this year, including a 231 yard-five touchdown performance against Folsom. Junior defensive lineman Flenoid McCleary has 10 solo tackles to go along with four sacks for the Wolverines defense. While they have faced an elite offense against Folsom, the Wolverines will face an entirely different attack with Vacaville. After losing a 14 point fourth quarter lead at Marin Catholic, it has beaten Granite Bay and Valley Christian-San Jose. Melvin Mason has 587 yards and 10 touchdowns while Curtis Goins is also over 500 yards with six touchdowns. With the defense settling in some, look for Vacaville to keep rolling in this one.
