September 26, 2010Four weeks in and we're starting to get a pretty good feel of teams in the Sac-Joaquin Section. A closer look....
Sacramento Bee Section Top 10
1. Grant (3-0)
Routed Lincoln-Stockton 56-20 and dominated all phases, including special teams with Puka Lopa recovering fumbled punt snap for TD.
2. Vacaville (3-0)
Bulldogs rolled up a stunning 573 yards of offense against Granite Bay, 482 on the ground in a 47-23 win.
3. Folsom (2-1)
Bulldogs are rolling again, crushing an athletic Sacramento team 62-15 in making the Dragons look lost, leading 55-8 at the half behind brothers Tanner and Tyler Trosin.
4. Pleasant Grove (4-0)
Eagles are young, yes, but growing fast, leading Laguna Creek 28-0 at the half in 35-16 win as Mark Jenkins rushed for 194 yards and 3 touchdowns.
5. Nevada Union (2-1)
Miners trailed Chico 23-21 at the half before rolling 50-26 as Josiah Paye passed for 3 touchdowns and Devyn Grimes rushed for 163 and 3 total touchdowns.
6. St. Mary's-Stockton (2-1)
Rams were tied with national heavyweight De La Salle 14-14 at the half before the wheels flew off and the engine seized to the tune of eight absorbed sacks in 40-14 loss.
7. Oak Ridge (4-0)
Trojans are more than the real deal. Balanced, well coached, hungry for more after belting Del Oro 44-24 behind Will Tostenson-Willie Tucker connection.
8. Napa (4-0)
Indians are doing it with defense, with two shutouts, including 43-0 rout of Vallejo. Host Vacaville on Oct. 8 in monster MEL showdown.
9. Rocklin (3-1)
Thunder showed championship resolve in scoring two fourth-quarter touchdowns to beat Del Campo 14-10; B.J. Roberts keyed defense with two sacks, late pick.
10. Turlock (4-0)
Top ranked by Modesto Bee with nifty 24-21 win over 3-0 Modesto. Also routed Oakdale, which nearly toppled Granite Bay.
Games of note that include Section Top 10 teams:
*Valley Christian at Vacaville - San Jose super power tries to solve Bulldogs running game.
*Lincoln-Stockton at St. Mary's - Both are smarting from tough losses, with Trojans getting buried in the second half by Grant and the same happening to the Rams at De La Salle.
